oh the "feminine wiles" of this one. she plays right into the stereotypes that i don't even believe in.

so, we started an allowance with connor when he was about 6. and the last maybe 2 months i have been giving one to miriam as well, even though she is only 4. she doesn't understand it very well, what i am telling her to do with her money, but i figured she can learn by doing. she was very jealous that connor had a source of his own money, and she saw the sense of control it gave him. so she has a chore and a small allowance ($2) half of which goes into the basket at church. when i dole out the money she usually looks for her VERY first opportunity to spend it. okay so she doesn't have the saving thing down yet. connor thought this morning he should try to emphasize saving (he has a stash of $27 right now that he is very proud of) so he was explaining to her that if she wants something that is $5, she needs to not spend that $1, and save it until she has $5. then he said "what if you want something that is $3? what should you do?" she is a quick study at least as far as words go, so she responded "save it!" and then she turns her little eyes up at him and lays on the charm, thick as molasses. "or..i could ask you" (bat, bat those eyelashes, little girl! you are gonna be trouble!) connor, sweet boy that he is, goes "well, right, i mean, sometimes i can share" wow.
