CORN!
i don't have a picture, hopefully i will remember to rectify that shortly; but i have to say, for a california beach girl, i find an incredible amount of joy in watching the corn grow. i love seeing the little teeny seedlings dotting the fields and i love to see the waist high stalks in july and i love when they are 6-7 feet tall, and i love when they turn yellowy-brown in september/october before the harvest. even though i don't plant or grow or harvest it, watching it makes me feel connected, down to earth, planted firmly in God's creation. God willing there will be a day when my soul is fulfilled in heaven, but the corn gives me joy at being part of the created world. A lot of nature makes me feel small and full of wonder...how can you really describe the pleasure of staring at the pacific, or driving through the smoky mountains at dawn? I see the Almighty, the awesomeness of our God in these places; but the corn is so real, it's so right now, it is so earthly.
