are we raising alex p keaton?

today i was trying to give connor some real world applications for math. started with all the standards: cooking, restaurant tips, etc. after a few i suggested income taxes as a need for basic arithmetic. he said "whats that?" i explained that every year, you have to file and pay taxes on your income. he said "but the stores already take your taxes when you buy things" yes, i explained, they take sales taxes. but you also have to pay income taxes, meaning taxes based on how much you earn. he said "Thats not fair!" and started crying. like literally, crying hard. with tears. i tried to explain all the good things that we get from paying taxes, like a military, and national parks and things we all need like roads. he just kept crying....

(at that point i went running around to find my phone, because i desperately wanted video of the time connor was nine and learned he would have to pay income taxes and cried like a baby...but alas, i couldn't find it fast enough)
